The company
An established manufacturer of MDF products, is looking to recruit an experienced transport planning supervisor to control and supervise transport scheduling operations.
Position summary.
To ensure effective and cost-efficient routes, within time constraints for inter depot and throughout the UK.
Duties
- Responsible for a team of 9 vehicles and drivers and where appropriate 3rd haulage & temp drivers.
- Route all company vehicles to deliver within delivery dates.
- Booking deliveries in advance with customers where required, and keeping sales staff and customers informed of agreed timelines.
- Raise accurate purchase orders using business systems.
- Prepare paperwork for dispatch team.
- De-brief drivers upon return matching POD’s to drivers schedule, ensuring every POD is signed printed and dated.
- Ensure all vehicle and trailer maintenance plans are completed, booking in with supplier as and when required.
- Assist the transport manager with the day-to-day running of the distribution operations.
- Identify cost-saving initiatives and identify trends to improve efficiencies where possible.
- Monitor drivers overtime payments against hours taken against hours allocated planned routes.
Qualifications/ experience/skills
- NVQ level2 or equivalent in logistics/ supply chain
- Competent with excel & word documents.
- Previous experience of routing vehicles and excellent geographical knowledge.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-changing department.
- Good knowledge of transport legislation
- Proven track record of process improvement
The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm salary guide £28-32k dependent on experience.
