Traffic Engineer - Manchester City Council
  • Pay Rate: £35-£45 per hour Umbrella
  • Location: Manchester. Hybrid working 2 office days per week
  • Contract: Initial 6 months with potential for extension

Manchester City Council are seeking a Traffic Engineer to join the Highways Service team within the Neighbourhoods Directorate. The role holder will provide specialist technical consultancy and lead the delivery of technical projects in traffic engineering, ensuring high standards of customer service and service delivery that align with the Council’s corporate aims and objectives.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Provide technical consultancy for traffic engineering projects, ensuring solutions meet customer and legislative requirements.
  • Lead the delivery of work packages, ensuring objectives are achieved in compliance with internal and legislative guidelines.
  • Develop successful relationships and secure stakeholder commitment to ensure effective project delivery.

Role Portfolio:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 and National Transport Strategies.
  • Manage the highway network and public spaces efficiently, balancing the needs of users and stakeholders.
  • Develop, design, procure, and implement traffic engineering schemes to improve the existing network and support sustainable transport.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of highway and traffic engineering schemes, developing CAD designs and overseeing the engineering design process from inception to completion.
  • Design and approve traffic calming and Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) schemes based on current design guidance and legislation.
  • Manage and deliver TRO schemes, including liaison with Legal Services and effective administration of TRO records.
  • Communicate with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders throughout the duration of schemes, including handling enquiries and complaints.
  • Comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Assist in the delivery of work packages within Project Management constraints of time, quality, and cost standards.
  • Display financial management skills to monitor and control income and expenditure.
