Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace works around the world and around the clock to invent the future of flight, lift people up and bring them home safely. At the Wales site just north of Cardiff, this is the vision that powers some of the world's leading commercial airlines.

The GE Aerospace site in Wales is a dedicated maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility focussed exclusively on supporting commercial customers. The site has a long and storied history dating back to the flight of Concorde (for which the site serviced the Olympus engines) and beyond.

Combined with a global reputation for quality and product safety, the Wales site is one of GE Aerospace's most high-profile MRO facilities, employing around 1,200 highly skilled engineers and specialists.

Today, the site focusses on supporting the CFM56 and GE90 commercial flights for customers from around the world. Looking to the future, the site will also be the dedicated overhaul home of the GE9X engine when it enters into service on the wing of the Boeing 777X.

The site is a powerhouse in the aviation maintenance sector and contributes significantly to the Welsh and UK economies and employs over 1,200 highly skilled professionals.

Job Description

The site operates a number of shift patterns across days, afternoons, weekends and nights.

As a Tradesperson you will have the technical responsibility for the engine or its constituent parts and process maintenance data relating to such parts. 


Essential Responsibilities


This role includes but is not limited to:

  • Overhaul, repair, modification, inspection, replacement, or defect rectification of an engine/module/accessory/component/unit.
  • Restore used parts, component/assembly/engine/module/accessory/unit by inspection, and/or replacement in conformity with an approved standard to extend the operational life.
  • Restore a component/engine/module to a serviceable condition in conformity with an approved standard and to ensure that cost effective operation is achieved.


The successful candidate will also be responsible for:

  • Ensuring section adherence to 5S standards.
  • Ensuring adherence to standard work targets in order to meet the overall business Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost objectives.
  • Embedding continuous improvement activities into their daily standard work to facilitate business progression.


Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • A relevant Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively interpret detailed work instructions.
  • Team player with a flexible approach and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Strong communication skills and problem-solving ability.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience working in a diverse team environment.
  • Previous working knowledge of SAP or an equivalent ERP system.
  • A demonstrable desire to learn and grow with advances in technology.
  • A good understanding of Lean tools and working practices.
  • Previous experience operating and programming Fanuc systems.
  • Ability to work to pre-defined programs.
  • Previous experience of Plasma, Wire Arc and HVOF spraying techniques
  • Previous experience using OEM shop manuals
