About the Role:
We are searching for a Technical Solutions Associate who can compile and translate the business requirements to develop and deliver innovative solutions for our flagship projects. You’ll work in collaboration with our in-house science team and external partners to help achieve our 2030 goals. We are looking for a self-starter who has a strong technical knowledge and expertise in agile development to create technology solutions that are informed by scientific evidence.

Key Responsibilities:

You will have the opportunity to contribute to collaborative funding applications and research publications. You will benefit from the support of our in-house research leads, and external partner experts in academic, community, industry, services and charities.
You’ll use your skills in this role to:

  • Write clear and comprehensive technical specifications, business requirements and project documentation.
  • Develop and maintain existing and new apps and web platforms.
  • Develop interactive content that meets access and inclusion standards for diverse user engagement.
  • Co-create UX design and user journeys.
  • Create content hierarchies.
  • Create wireframes and interactive prototypes.
  • Develop and maintain database infrastructure and data management systems.
  • Create and maintain content management systems (existing or bespoke).
  • Co-design and develop innovative solutions to achieve our 2030 goals.
  • Ensure all coding and documentation is kept up to date.
  • Ensure all solutions meets the current standards for cybersecurity, GDPR compliance, and web accessibility.
  • Work with our in-house research, fundraising and comms teams, external partners, and community advisors, to ensure the technology solutions meet the priorities of the autistic community, our funders, and relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Work with research, fundraising, and comms teams to inform engaging lay descriptions of our projects for internal and external communications, updating these as the projects develop.


About You:
Desirable experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in a similar technical role
  • Post-graduate qualification (e.g., PGCert, Master’s degree, or PhD) in computer science, human computer interaction design, psychology or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in agile development methodologies.
  • Proficiency in AWS, Java, Python, Matlab, SWL, or similar.
  • Experience of AI integration and its ethical use for automated processing of information.
  • Experience of creating technology-enabled solutions for health and wellbeing innovations and information-based interfaces.
  • Knowledge of database infrastructure and data management systems.
  • Familiarity with creating and maintaining content management systems.
  • Experience in managing technical projects from conception to delivery.
  • Ability to co-design and develop project deliverables.
  • Experience in UX design, creating content hierarchies, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.
  • Experience in integrating cybersecurity standards, GDPR compliance, and web accessibility guidelines
  • Ability to identify and address challenges that may arise during the development and implementation of technical solutions.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Ability to align technical solutions with company’s broader goals and objectives.


Skills

  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of and empathy for the autistic community, to ensure that solutions are designed with their needs in mind.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience of autism and autism research
  • Excellent written English and understanding of writing for online audiences, including an appreciation of SEO best practices
  • Experience in working with researchers and/or clinicians
  • Experience in the charity sector, particularly research charities
  • Experience of working with autistic people and/or other neurodivergent groups
  • Scientific or research background


Personal attributes

  • Comfortable with nuance and uncertainty, with the motivation and resilience to tackle a fascinating but complex and contentious area of focus (autism and autism research).
  • Understanding of and empathy for autistic and neurodivergent communities, to ensure that solutions are designed with their needs in mind.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Highly committed to the company mission, values, and activities.


Employment Information
Hours: 35 hour per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Hybrid with 1 - 2 days in our London office (Old Street) each week
Annual Leave: 28 days annual leave a year, exclusive of bank holidays.
Professional development: As well as occasional all-staff training, you will have a personal training budget of £300 per year.
