Your new company
The services of Hays have been retained by our client, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, to recruit a Technical Inspector for their Technical Inspection Unit on a temporary contract based from their office in Belfast City Centre with the option to work from home.

Your new role
This is a temporary contract for a duration of 6 months+ subject to review. You will be based at the NIHE's head office in Belfast City Centre and have the option to work from home.
The main purpose of the role is to assist the Technical Inspection Manager with the delivery of an annual inspection program of planned schemes and response maintenance contracts, providing assurance to the Housing Executive that delivery of these schemes and response maintenance works are managed in accordance with contract conditions and NIHE policy.
Some of the main duties are:

  • Organise samples for the inspections and undertake preliminary meetings with the Management Teams for the area to be assessed, in preparation for the technical inspection.
  • Carry out onsite inspections of works completed through NIHE contracts, and desk top assessment of paperwork associated with the completed work and NIHE contract management procedures, following an agreed methodology.
  • Present inspections findings in a comprehensive report that will accurately reflect the findings on site; initially for discussion with operational staff and then in a form for presentation to NIHE senior management and committees.

What you'll need to succeed
To be eligible to apply for this position you must meet the following criteria:
A Bachelor's Degree, or an equivalent level 6 qualification, in Architecture/Building Surveying or a relevant Building related discipline, plus at least 2 years' experience working in a Building / Construction related environment
OR
BTEC Higher Certificate/Diploma or equivalent in a relevant Building related discipline plus at least 3 years' experience working in a Building / Construction related environment
OR
Can demonstrate equivalent continuing professional development or experiential learning and at least 5 years' experience working in a Building / Construction related environment.
AND
Must demonstrate relevant experience in all the specific areas set out below:
(i)Significant knowledge of Construction legislation and statutory regulations, building standards, specifications, details and related documentation in a housing environment.
(ii)Carrying out construction site inspections to evaluate compliance with building regulations and any other prescribed technical standards.
(iii)Working knowledge of NEC 3 Contracts and assessing whether contracts have been managed and delivered in line with the contract conditions.

Salary range £30,151 - £38,296 pro rata
Paid weekly every Friday morning
38 Days annual leave including public holidays
37 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Hybrid working
Business mileage reimbursed at 45p per mile
