One of the world’s leading luxury clothing brands is hiring a Technical Design Manager on a 6 month contract

Job Details:

Working as a key part of the global Architecture team the Technical Design Manager receives design briefs from the creative team and works to develop these to complete technical mock ups, testing and documentation. This role coordinates the physical prototyping and 2D documentation of finishes, fixtures and architectural details for construction. Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external consultants and contractors ensuring quality, cost effective and timely outcomes

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring timely production and delivery of design prototypes.
  • Maintain up-to-date design development project tracking.
  • Manage stakeholder review, feedback and approval of all new and revised design elements. Cross functional stakeholders include: Procurement, Sustainability, IT, Ops, VM, APP, H+S, WPS.
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback into design revisions through technical development process.
  • Ensure design development is in line with brand aesthetics and standards.
  • Gathering and analysing stakeholder feedback on architecture elements, resolving technical items and escalating to design team all adjustments with aesthetic implications.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards for store architecture, fixtures and finishes.
  • Ensuring timely circulation of approved design documentation. Create and publish detailed specifications and drawings for construction teams.
  • Ensuring all regional construction teams have access to current, complete and correct documentation for implementation in the construction project pipeline.
  • Update existing design protocols and standards regularly for ongoing quality improvement, sustainability targets and value engineering requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in the design and construction process.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors.
  • Working with millworkers to ensure high quality, cost efficient and timely outcomes.
  • Supporting our external contractors and suppliers to ensure quality outcomes of our built elements.
  • Ensure supplier satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead technical design solutions for all standard finishes and fixtures.
  • Provide support during implementation phases.
  • Review and approve technical specifications supplied by regional construction teams.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers regarding design requirements and standards.
  • Supporting construction teams to ensure quality standards are achieved in all our millwork production.
  • Prepare reports on project progress and outcomes.
  • Process quotations, invoices and keep track of the spending
  • Manage the incomings and outgoings to technical architect for documentation
  • Manage the internal filing systems
  • Manage the CAD library of fixtures, finishes and details
  • Organise and keep the library of material samples in order and up to date. Including:

- Material sample library, central team

- Circulating material samples to the regions

  • Central: Lighting, flooring and fabrics
  • Regional: Anything millworker related
  • Manage physical and digital design archives and resources.
  • Organise and catalogue design materials.
  • Maintain physical storage of design materials.
  • Implement archival best practices.
  • Document and keep records of archived materials.


Key Requirements

  • Architectural design and development background essential.
  • Experience with producing high quality, luxury millwork and interior fit outs preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies essential.
  • Advanced understanding of planning, scheduling and programming tasks. Critical path management ensuring projects are delivered on time, identifying and making recommendations to mitigate any risks/challenges.
  • Working understanding of design principles and methods.
  • Able to manage within a budget with commercial awareness and understanding of cost.

  • Advanced ability to read and draw with cad software (AutoCAD preferred).
  • Experience managing vendor relationship, delivering clear briefs and leveraging relationship to meet demands.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality is required.
  • Collaborative team player with strong initiative.
  • Solutions focused individual, with the ability to think laterally across problem solving options and comfortable to maintain contingency plans for all key deliverables in order to maintain timelines.
