Technical Accountant

Reed Accountancy are delighted to be supporting a local organisation who are looking for a Technical Accountant on a Temporary 6 month basis.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Accountant to join a local authority in Essex on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will be instrumental in leading the closure of accounts and the preparation of the Statement of Accounts, ensuring all processes comply with the relevant regulations and standards. This role is a fantastic opportunity to play a key part in the financial management of our community and to make a significant impact during a critical period.

• Lead the closure of accounts and preparation of the Statement of Accounts, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards.
• Manage the external audit process, addressing queries efficiently to minimise costs.
• Stay abreast of new legislation, regulations, and accounting standards, analysing their impact and ensuring implementation.
• Establish and document accounting policies in line with best practices and relevant codes.
• Implement procedures to maintain control over accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and asset management.
• Oversee treasury management activities, including investments and borrowing, and assist in developing the treasury strategy.
• Contribute to the management of the finance team, overseeing resource planning, allocation, and performance.
• Offer guidance and advice to stakeholders on financial matters, leveraging extensive experience in local government finance.
• Utilise a strong working knowledge of finance systems, such as Sage, to support financial operations.

• Significant experience in financial accounting within a local government or similar setting.
• Essential experience with year-end budgets and closing of accounts.
• Proven track record of providing expert financial advice and guidance.
• Proficiency with finance systems.

• And liaising with the senior business partner and partnering authority to deliver the year accounts on time with the Corporate Manager Finance and Accountancy.
