Student Engagement Mentor - West Hoathly

Engage Education are currently working in partnership with an all through school on an exciting new student engagement mentor position specifically to support learners with SEMH in the West Hoathly area.

Starting immediately, the school is looking for outstanding mentors to join them on a long term basis.

This is supporting a learner with SEMH.

Your Role:

  • Supporting learners on a one-to-one basis often with complex learning needs

  • Working with other support staff to engage pupils in class

  • Providing feedback to teachers and parents

The School:

This school is an independent special day school for pupils with identified social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs and social communication difficulties. Some children have been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum, and all pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Being in a more rural location, they place a strong emphasis on outdoor learning, through subjects including: Horticulture, Forest School, Horse Riding and Equine Studies. They also deliver multiple creative subjects, such as, Ceramics, Food Technology and Art & Textiles. Therefore, they are looking for someone who is happy and keen to participate in all subjects across the school.

Due to the location of the school, the ideal candidate will need to be a driver! If very local to West Hoathly, it is possible via Public transport, from areas such as Crawley, Three Bridges, Copthorne or Turners Hill.

What you will need:

  • A range of behaviour management techniques

  • To have worked with learners with a range of needs

  • The ability to engage a young person in learning through a range of methods

  • To be able to commit to working at the school for long period of time

  • A resilient attitude
