A Steel Operative is required for a steel processing company based in the Wednesbury area. It is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company and learn a new skill within the steel industry.

Your main duties will initially involve packing steel stock in the warehouse, including saw blades and similar. You would then be trained to operate the CNC saws and plasma cutters. This entails working with strip sheet steel, loading / unloading the machinery, setting, followed by machine checks, and operating the machinery.

Duties include:

  • Packing and banding saw blades and similar steel stock
  • Working with sheet steel
  • Experience driving counterbalance FLTs is beneficial
  • Training up to set / operate the CNC saws and plasma cutters
  • Loading / unloading, setting, machine checks and operating

Rates / hours:

  • Working hours are morning shifts to start with; 7:00am - 3:00pm
  • Initially paying; £11.44 per hour

Once settled into the packing role and trained on the setting / operating, your rates and hours will change to a hybrid days / nights rotating shift pattern, spread over three weeks, averaging 40 hours per week.

Depending on the level of your training you will be placed into either Grade 1 or Grade 2.

This will be explained to you, but a brief outline of the shifts is below;

  • Week 1 - 6am - 6pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - 36 hours (3x day shifts)
  • Week 2 - 6am - 6pm Mon, Tues & 6pm - 6am Thurs, Fri - 48 hours (2x days / 2x nights)
  • Week 3 - 6pm - 6am Wed, Thurs, Fri - 36 hours (3x nights)

Once trained up / moved onto this shift pattern your rate will be £15.50 per hour for Grade 1 and £13.80 per hour for Grade 2. The rate is the same for both days and nights.
