If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant in Leeds schools and alternative settings!

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in providing tailored support and assistance to students with special educational needs. Working closely with dedicated teaching staff, you will ensure that every child receives the individualised attention and care they require to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The schools we work with require qualified Teaching Assistants to support pupils in small groups and on a 1:1 basis asap for the rest of the academic year. This role will require your support Monday - Friday 8:30-3:30 (hours may vary slightly) term time only.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the class teacher to plan and implement differentiated learning activities that cater to the specific requirements of students with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students, delivering targeted interventions and adapting teaching methods to suit individual learning styles.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, as required, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
  • Use appropriate strategies to manage challenging behaviours and promote positive behaviours management techniques.
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to ensure coordinated support for students.
  • Monitor and track student progress, documenting observations and providing feedback to the teaching staff and parents/guardians.
  • Support students in developing independent learning skills, social skills, and emotional well-being.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN setting is highly desirable but transferable experience is acceptable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational needs of children with diverse needs.
  • Knowledge of various special educational needs and associated strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with teachers, parents/guardians, and external professionals.
