Software Engineer - Attractive - Permanent - Defence and Aviation Systems - East Midlands Area

A Software Engineer is required to join a market leading Innovative Defence Systems and Aviation Company. The Software Engineer will be Supporting the Software Technical Lead to define, plan, create and verify software development and testing. The Software Engineer will play a part in all current and future programme activities contributing to the support integration and test activities, including trials in the UK.

Software Engineer - Key Responsibilities

  • Create the software plan for existent software development
  • Incorporating appropriate processes for safety critical development
  • Update existing software safety management plan accordingly
  • Maintain software requirements, design and testing documentation
  • Maintain procedures and methods for development and testing
  • Contribute towards the continual improvement of working practices and methods
  • Support the Software Technical Lead in training the other software team members
  • Participate in software implementation, bug fixing and testing
  • Support generation and preparation of software release documentation
  • Participate in software integration and qualification, system integration and test
  • Bring maturity and credibility when engaging with customers, managers and stakeholders
  • Cover potentially both Real Time and Windows based Software Developments
  • Undertake systems engineering activities relating to the software programmes
  • Promote the importance of software quality attributes, including system efficiency
  • Develop and manage effective relationships across the company and its customers
  • Promote maintainability, reliability, and reusability
  • Maintain code and documentation within configuration management systems
  • Participate in Peer Reviews of documentation and code

Technical Skills, Qualifications and Experience for the Software Engineer

  • BSc or equivalent in Software Engineering academic degree
  • Strong Object-Oriented Design principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced C and C++ programming and debugging skills
  • Experience within a Visual Studio integrated development environment
  • Good attention to detail with excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong inter-personal and people management skills
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Ability to prioritise activities as required.
  • Knowledge of algorithms, data structures and software design patterns
  • Knowledge of Real Time Embedded software development and test
  • Familiarity with a software development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with software requirements management
  • Experience in the use of a software design modelling tool and modelling language
  • Experience in writing well-defined and testable code
  • Familiarity with and the use of Software Coding Standards
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting software issues and debugging
  • Experience working to safety standards such as DO-178C and MISRA. - Desirable
  • Experience using Unified Modelling Language (UML) tools and methodologies to
