Exciting Opportunity for a Special Education Teacher

Classroom Dynamics:

  • Lead a classroom of 5 pupils, comprising both boys and girls, each with unique Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and developmental trauma delay.
  • Supported by a dedicated team of 6 Teaching Assistants, including 2 Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). HLTAs assist in planning and administration, guided by the teacher's overarching vision.

Collaborative Environment:

  • Work alongside a cohesive team that has cultivated strong relationships with the students, understanding their individual requirements.

Key Details:

  • Full-time role with 35 hours per week, from 8:30AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Emphasis on social-emotional learning and tailored core subjects, targeting Key Stage 2 levels.
  • Utilize existing planning resources while infusing your creativity and expertise into lesson plans.
  • Implement off-site timetables, incorporating educational trips and engaging activities like climbing, swimming, and museum visits.
  • Opportunity for off-site teaching and in-school instruction with reduced class sizes, enhancing the learning environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated passion for innovative and collaborative teaching methodologies.
  • Possess a compassionate and resilient demeanor.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to establish appropriate boundaries within a therapeutic educational setting.
  • Proficient in behavior management and trauma-informed teaching techniques.
  • Previous experience in outdoor learning or SEMH teaching roles is advantageous.
