About the Role

We are improving our bus network in Surrey, with an ambitious and exciting programme, supported by £50million of capital funding to decarbonise the bus network and to improve the passenger experience.

This role will support the development of the council's approach to minimise emissions and ensure resilience to future climate impacts. You will be responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing a range of passenger transport projects including bus priority measures, infrastructure improvements, bus stop accessibility improvements, new bus shelters, and measurements to allow buses to operate reliably and efficiently.

There are significant housing developments being planned and delivered across Surrey and it is important that sustainable transport provision is secured as part of the planning process. You will work closely with our colleagues in Transport Development Planning to identify and ensure that appropriate measures to ensure high quality passenger transport is delivered as part of these schemes. This can include new bus services and bus priority infrastructure.

About You

To be a successful candidate you will:

  • Have a proven record in developing, leading, and delivering a range of projects, with experience of implementing ambitious projects on the highway, and participation in passenger transport schemes.
  • Understand the problems that lead to poor passenger transport accessibility, delays to bus services, service unreliability and low patronage in order to identify solutions and develop effective passenger transport improvements.
  • Have excellent IT capability and proven communication and organisation skills, with the willingness to work within a small but busy team, and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people and a variety of stakeholders within Surrey County Council, contractors, and other organisations
