Reed Talent Solutions are currently working with a West Yorkshire based Local Authority to recruit a Senior Planning Officer on an initial six-month contract. The post-holder will take a lead role and assist the Council and its partners to deliver outcomes on major and complex planning applications, provide pre-submission advice, deal with appeal case work in order to secure the best planning outcome.

Role Information

  • 6-month contract with potential to extend
  • Location: Wakefield
  • Paye Hourly Rate: £19 (Salary Equivalent £37,050)
  • LTD Daily Rate: £167 (Inside IR35)

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a lead role and assist the Council and its partners to deliver outcomes on major and complex planning applications, provide pre-submission advice, deal with appeal case work in order to secure the best planning outcome.
  • Produce reports which place a strong emphasis on planning policy and provide design guidance. Case work may include effective negotiation of planning performance agreements, calculation of CIL contributions and coordinate associated legal agreements.
  • Case manage a live case load; ensuring that issues are recorded and dealt with in accordance with the agreed target(s) and timescale(s) associated with national requirements corporate objectives and or through the terms of performance agreements.
  • Prepare professional reports and produce and present evidence for appeals. Ensure that planning policies and procedures are applied and adhered to and represent the Council as required.
  • Assist in the analysis of submitted plans and supporting information, negotiating with consultees, applicants and their agents, answering queries from members of the public and their elected representatives.

Essential Criteria

  • Appropriate qualification in and or associated with Town and Country Planning.
  • Proven case work experience and or training to demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with a range of case work involving complex- major application types including the redevelopment of Brownfield and Green Belt sites.
  • Able to demonstrate continued professional development across a range of appeal types.
  • Theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of land use planning and Development Management related matters.
  • A grounded-applied understanding of organisational policies, practices and procedures within a corporate framework.
  • Understanding and ability to apply the principles of National planning policies, circulars and planning Law.
  • Able to demonstrate awareness of relevant legislation and standards including Data Protection, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities etc.
