An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our thriving UK Medical Manufacturing Company.

The successful candidate will design new and innovative electro-mechanical Medical Devices, and will be involved in managing projects from conception, testing and qualification through to commercialisation and production support. The role encompasses all aspects of mechanical design including concepting, CAD work, analysis, prototyping, empirical methods and testing/verification activities.

Due to the nature of this role, we are seeking an individual who can quickly integrate into the team, communicate effectively at all levels, and has a hands-on approach. International travel may be required on occasion.

Essential Experience/Qualifications:

• Qualified with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, or possessing equivalent significant experience in related engineering role, ideally in the medical or another regulated sector
• Demonstrated experience in new product development, mechanical design and team working
• Ability to manage the technical aspects of a project teams, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion of projects. This includes project facilitation, comprehensive project documentation (including design briefs, risk analysis) and verification tasks
• Effective management of project plans, including detailed milestone setting and timeline generation to ensure key milestones are met in line with overall program timings. This involves assisting with task allocation and management across the team within project time box breakdowns
• Experience in cross-functional collaboration between departments such as Technical, Marketing, Sales, Tool Room, Quality, and Manufacturing
• Proficiency in Siemens NX or similar CAD software, with experience in creating both 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings
• Ability to mentor junior team members and promote design best practice

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

• Knowledge of design for high and low-volume injection moulding including design for manufacture and assembly
• Knowledge of electronics design and embedded software development
• Experience within the medical device industry, with knowledge of MDD 93/42/EEC, EU MDR (2017/745), ISO 13485 and FDA Design Control
• Knowledge and understanding of BS EN 60601 and associated medical equipment standards
• Experience with outsourcing, particularly with suppliers in international markets
• Experience using Teamcenter or other similar PLM Systems
• Knowledge of BS8888 and Geometric Tolerancing

Hours of Work:

• 40 hours per week
• Monday to Friday
• 09:00 am – 17:30pm (flexibility can be given to the right candidate)
