Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Automotive

This is a unique opportunity to work for a prestigious automotive manufacturer. They are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for their ever growing team based in the Dartford area. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience of Design Engineering in the automotive field.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Overview

Reporting to the chief engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing various areas of the cars, including electrical systems, powertrains and structural parts. It is also anticipated that the Mechanical Design Engineer will provide support to more junior members of the team.

The position will involve Design using Solidworks, prototyping, creating bill of materials, product resourcing or bespoke production equipment.

Other responsibilities will include;

• Creation and development of detailed technical & production drawings using Solidworks.
• Managing data, such as drawings and parts, in a PDM system
• Assisting with the development of prototypes
• Developing improvements to existing catalogue parts
• Creating Bill of Materials
• Reverse engineering of old parts in order for reproduction.
• Liaise with, and project-manage, suppliers involved in external manufacturing and prototyping

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Requirements

• Proficiency with using Solidworks or Catia to create original drawings and designs
• Proficiency to read and interpret complex technical engineering drawings
• 5+ years of previous design experience within the automotive/ motorcycling industries
• Previous experience imputting into PDM systems avantageous
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Remuneration

• £40,000 - £55,000 - Dependent upon experience
• After a probationary period, there will be a range of benefits such as eligibility to join the Company Pension Scheme, DIS, hybrid working, and staff purchase discounts.
• Holidays - starting 22 days annual leave (rising to maximum 27 days).
• Hours of work: Monday - Thursday 8:30am-5pm, Friday 8:30am-1:30pm
