As a Principal Estimating Manager you will provide management of people and resources through the development of a series of Cost Estimates for high-value and complex projects, including accurate first-line assurance and establishing appropriate levels of contingency within the overall budget.

£50-£60/ hour London, inside IR35
6-12 Month Contract
Starts April 2024
Quantity Surveying, Cost Management or Engineering background is required.

As Principal Estimating Manager your duties will include:


    • Ensuring Cost Management principles and processes are aligned with Risk Management, establishing contingency requirements within the overall budget.

    • Undertaking reviews of Cost Estimates, which will include challenging proposals using cost benchmarks.

    • Developing overall Cost baselines, monitoring progress and taking corrective action in the management of Cost

    • You will have accomplished understanding of Cost Management techniques including Earned Value Management (EVM)

    • You will demonstrate best practices by performing complex estimates and develop the supporting estimating deliverables, such as methodologies, basis documents and risk assessments

    • Working cross-functionally with other disciplines in the use of BIM data

    • You will be responsible for ensuring that the work performed on assigned projects is technically accurate, on schedule and within budget

    • You will be capable of using a range of data to develop cost models, in particular indirect costs

    • Coordinating technical issues with other functions on projects, including leading cost reviews

    • Understanding work processes of other disciplines and functions on projects and proposals

    • Communicating cost related issues so that cost led design can be formulated

    • Drawing on best practice from industry (e.g. benchmarking databases) for all estimating and related Controls services.



Requirements


    • Membership of the RICS, ACostE, ICES or similar professional association and degree or equivalent experience or achieved NVQ Level 4 in Project Controls

    • Chartered Status or in the process of achieving Chartered Status

    • Experience in high value, complex type construction or infrastructure Estimating programmes

    • Experience of leading and managing teams within the estimating process and facilitate communication with stakeholders on a range of Estimating issues

    • Proficient at developing, understanding and quantifying work scope to develop first principals Cost Estimates

    • Skilled at converting estimates into budgets for control purposes, as well as monitoring and evaluating the implementation of risk, opportunity and uncertainty control measures

    • Ability to develop an analysis of external influencing factors such as inflation and market trends, both nationally and internationally

    • Ability to interpret regulations and industry codes / standards affecting complex high value estimates

    • Ability to understand cost drivers and their effect on the overall CWLC of a project

    • Experience of managing the performance of others in the development of all discipline activities on projects or programmes of high value and complexity.
