Pay Rate: £22.99 - £29.63  per hour

Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week, initial contract is 3 months

Main Duties of the Senior Education Welfare Officer:

  • Collaborate closely with parents, young individuals, and educational institutions to ensure access to education for all compulsory school-aged children.
  • Prioritise efforts to maintain young people's engagement in education, emphasising full-time attendance for those of compulsory school age, within Southwark.
  • Mitigate exclusion risks through academic progress, positive conduct, and constructive activities within Southwark's youth population.
  • Advocate for and assist schools, families, and young individuals in implementing strategies to prevent permanent exclusion, including facilitating managed transfers when appropriate.
  • Aid in the development of comprehensive multi-agency plans to support school attendance and prevent exclusion.
  • Deliver prompt and effective support to schools, families, and relevant stakeholders to fulfil Southwark Council's statutory obligations concerning attendance and inclusion.
  • Execute various measures of parental responsibility, up to and including legal actions for persistent non-attendance.

 Requirements of the Senior Education Welfare Officer:

  • Minimum of two years' experience in a role related to Education Welfare, Inclusion, or similar field.
  • Documentation demonstrating the legal right to work and reside in the UK. Current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Possession of a valid UK driving license without any endorsements, enabling independent commuting to and from work.
