£67-70K + benefits

The company: You will be joining a public sector organisation where the most important conversations are happening today. And a place making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind.

Responsibilities: The Data Engineer role plays a key part in their strategic adoption of data virtualization. In this role, you'll focus on solution development and implementation of Business Intelligence solutions within this architecture. You'll work closely with the Head of Data Engineering to architect and implement designs, often enhancing existing complex solutions. To succeed, you'll have a combination of strong technical skills, enabling you to develop effective solutions within a virtualized landscape, as well as strong communication skills for working with business users and the BI team.

Core skills:

  • Experience with cloud-based data technologies and a strong foundation in SQL with adaptability to Denodo's VQL and its approach to querying across disparate data sources.
  • Ability to analyse existing solutions and identify opportunities for improvement in areas like performance, integration, or usability.
  • Experience with release processes in complex data environments, understanding the importance of change control and testing.
  • Skill in understanding business needs and translating them into efficient data designs that prioritize ease of access and analytics.
  • Work effectively with stakeholders across technical and business teams to ensure solutions meet diverse requirements.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience with SQL, demonstrating proficiency in data manipulation and querying.
  • Understanding of fundamental BI and data warehousing concepts (joins, aggregations, dimensional modelling, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams.

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience with data virtualization tools or concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) or hybrid approaches like Prince2 Agile.
  • Data warehouse design courses/certifications, ideally with a focus on modern architectures (Agile Data Warehousing, BEAM, etc.). Alternatively, courses on data virtualization or data fabric concepts.
  • Certifications demonstrating competency with Microsoft data related services.
