This role has a starting salary of £43,923 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

This is a hybrid role and the Council operates an agile working policy. As a team we meet in the office for meetings and where business needs arise but there is also opportunity to work flexibly from different locations.

About the team

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to take part in the improvement and support of the County Council's information governance strategy as it strives towards compliance in dealing with: Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations, Data Protection, the Transparency Agenda and the implementation of good records management. Whilst at the same time the Council is facing new and emerging technologies such as AI and continuous improvements to serving the public through its extensive partnership working via the Surrey MAISP (Multi Agency information Sharing Protocol).

The Corporate Information Governance Team is based within the Law & Governance Directorate and is the responsible IG lead for formulating information policy and advice with direct reporting to the Information Governance Risk Board and working with the Data Strategy.

About the role

The position of Senior Information Governance Officer is critical to the smooth running of the Corporate Information Governance Team. In this role you will play a vital role in deputising for the Corporate IG Manager, dealing with complex enquiries, providing advice, guidance and training with a view to improve information governance within the Council. You will also take a leading role in continual improvement via the performance framework of IG and breach management.

Shortlisting criteria

The role will require a flexible and adaptable approach, balancing varying demands whilst working towards tight statutory deadlines. Given the sensitive nature of the work, the post holder will need to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.

To be considered for shortlisting for this position your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Your experience as an Information Governance Officer with good technical expertise and thorough understanding of the overall statutory IG framework
  • Ability to assess or conduct analysis; presenting results and putting forward recommendations on managing more complex situations to support decision making
  • Ability to influence and negotiate successfully with officers and partners working within a complex information governance environment
  • Proven ability to manage projects with experience in drafting privacy notices, undertaking internal reviews and complex requests
  • Ability and experience in delivering training to staff
