Role: Senior Clinical Coder

Location: Remote

Type: Interim

Hours: Full time

Day rate: £200 - £275 per day

Sellick Partnership are looking to appoint an Interim Senior Clinical Coder for our NHS client in the Midlands on a remote basis.

Job Purpose:

  • Be a subject matter expert for Clinical Coding with delegated responsibility for a particular specialty/specialties
  • Promote awareness of Clinical Coding
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies to support the Clinical Coding function
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyse, use judgement and extract relevant complex clinical information from case notes and electronic systems

Main responsibilities for the Clinical coder:

  • Assist the existing clinical coders to code all primary and secondary diagnoses, procedures and all operations for NHS & private episodes of care
  • Input codes using the systems available
  • Play an active part within the hospital teams influencing and persuading operational practices to achieve the overall aim of improving quality of clinical information
  • Work within and maintain up to date knowledge of all coding standards
  • Take responsibility for completing own workload
  • To provide specialist coding advice to clinicians and information staff on request
  • To manage and maintain the effectiveness of, and to identify possible improvements in, the Clinical Coding procedures and protocols
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with colleagues at all levels both clinical and non -clinical
  • Respond to Clinical Coding queries from all Team members on a timely basis
  • Responsible for the updating of ESR for both annual leave and sickness and undertake the appraisal process for B3 Coders
  • To deputise and provide managerial cover in the absence of the Clinical Coding Team Leader
  • Undertake delegated responsibilities and any other duties as requested from the Clinical Coding Manager or Team Leader

The successful candidate will have:

  • NHS experience
  • Clinical coding experience
  • Medicode 360 experience (ideally)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Commercial and financial awareness
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • The ability to work effectively at a senior level
