Senior Civil Structural Engineer

The Civil Structural Engineer will support the provision of engineering direction and input into the Global PGMS Portfolio of Projects and act as a subject Matter Expert to various teams in PGMS where CSA engineering is required.

The civil Structural engineer will report into the PGMS CAPEX Team as part of the support for Global and local Projects, however, with the reach of this position may be advising several teams, and be the JM voice and decision maker to external Engineering companies who conduct work on behalf of JM.

The Civil Structural Engineer will ensure that all capital projects from early concept and feasibility through to detailed design, build, commissioning, and handover receives the appropriate guidance and direction, to ensure that relevant Civil Structural Engineering standards are understood, interpreted, and adhered to as part of the project.

The CSA engineer will help individual project teams and the business scope the appropriate boundaries so as to meet all regulatory needs and advise on proactive infrastructure replacement goals and standards. This also includes validating that any external scopes of work that are proposed by Engineering Consultancies or 3r Parties are fit for purpose, safe and not over engineered.

They will provide front end engineering concepts and optionality that considers both the initial outlay as well as the life cycle cost of the asset into the design and proposal ensuring always that value for money has been achieved.

As a technical expert, the civil structural engineer will advise and specify that latest Industry best practices and support value improvement engineering opportunities are considered into the final design solution acting as civil structural engineering sign off.

The role will set the deliverables and scope for projects by writing or contributing to Project Basis and Design documents. Well defined CAPEX project scopes will be detailed by the civil structural Engineer by identifying risks and opportunities across the sites and also through working with the operation and maintenance teams to understanding emergent issues or opportunities for improvement.

The civil structural Engineer will contribute to ensuring the sites remain compliant with legislation and implementing improvements as outlined in frameworks such as COMAH and may be required to occasionally support during audits by the competent authority.

responsibilities-

  • In Conjunction with site CAPEX Leaders, define Scope of work and Basis of Design for a range of projects from the Global PGMS business portfolio.
  • Work with JM Group engineering CSA Technical Authority to align recommendations.
  • Undertake initial technical review of designs and construction document such as calculation, drawings and reports undertaken by contractors or other consultants for JM Group Engineering final review and approval.
  • Visit contractors on site and advise on Civil structural engineering related issues.
  • Work with the wider completions and commissioning team to outline validation checks to accept the CSA construction of projects.
  • Act as final sign off for complex CSA matters during project construction.

Communicate and liaise effectively with JM project managers, JM operation team, Contractors, and subcontractors to aid effective and efficient delivery of the projects.
