An exciting maternity cover fixed term contract opportunity has arisen for a confident and highly organised business development professional to join the Marketing & Business Development function of a major law firm to take responsibility for ESG and Risk Advisory.

ESG is an increasingly broad area and one of the most important issues facing the firm’s clients, intersecting with a number of other key issues across all sectors and practices. This role provides support to the planning, implementation and delivery of ESG related marketing and BD activity, and day to day support for the firm’s growing Risk Advisory practice across EMEA. The role holder will design and implement strategically aligned, client focused and value-added marketing and business development initiatives, working with colleagues across the regional sector and practice teams to bring together the firm’s considerable expertise across all aspects of ESG and Risk Advisory, and potentially other emerging areas and strategic initiatives with multi-sector and multi-practice impact and implications. Acting as the subject matter expert and ambassador for these areas within the region, including monitoring market developments and commercial opportunities, the Business Development Manager or Senior Business Development Manager will support lead partners, the partnership more widely and sector and practice BD teams to develop and implement annual business plans, budget proposals and campaign plans. You will work closely with partners on proactive, structured client development, including taking responsibility as the BD lead on some client programme accounts, and lead or input into bespoke bids, panel pitches and other client development presentations. On the marketing side, the successful applicant will be responsible for leading on profile raising initiatives, including events and partnerships with key external stakeholders such as industry bodies, managing branding and external positioning for ESG and overseeing relevant award and directory submissions.

The ideal candidate will be a persuasive and assertive team player with a strong background in professional services marketing and business development, ideally gained in a law firm, who is adept at working with stakeholders at all levels of seniority in an international business. Previous experience of managing and developing junior colleagues and demonstrable success in managing and writing bids will also be essential. Of graduate calibre or equivalent with a professionally recognised marketing or communications qualification, the Business Development Manager or Senior Business Development Manager must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to manage competing priorities and multiple tasks.
