Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our Estate Management Team, working across Wiltshire and Dorset including the Kingston Lacy, Stourhead, Purbeck and Lacock estates.

You’ll lead a strategic approach to managing a large and varied let portfolio. This encompasses residential, commercial and agricultural properties which are occupied by our tenants, as well as holiday cottages. Principally working on historic and listed buildings, you’ll be able to help guide and prepare our let buildings to meet future challenges.

Your contractual location will be our Tisbury Hub, Wiltshire and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

Internally this role is known as Senior Let Estate Building Surveyor.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity offering a salary of £50,000

What it's like to work here

Reporting to a Senior Estate Manager, you’ll line manage and support the development of a small team of building supervisors. Pivotal to your role will be preparing our let estate for the future, managing projects and ensuring high levels of maintenance quality and efficiency. The role offers an interesting variety of work, a good work life balance and the opportunity to principally be working on historic and listed buildings. 

What you'll be doing

As the technical buildings lead in our multi-disciplinary and friendly team, you’ll be delivering high level planned and reactive maintenance over a three year budget settlement and delivering an excellent service to our customers. The role will also require you to manage or be the client for a variety of construction projects up to the value of £1m.

Who we're looking for
  • qualified surveyor or architect (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent)
  • a high-level financial acumen and strong experience of managing large budgets
  • demonstrable interest in building surveying relating to heritage and conservation
  • robust knowledge of building conservation, including procurement, maintenance, repair, and asset and contract management
  • an understanding of relevant legislation and best practice
  • experienced in delivering projects in a multi-disciplinary environment and
  • adept with working at pace across a varied client base
