Senior Back End Developer - Hybrid, Glasgow

Salary - Up to £60,000

Head Resourcing is looking for an experienced Senior Back End Developer to join a Glasgow based Financial Services Client. This is a hybrid role with working from the office in Glasgow twice per week, please ensure when applying you can commute to Glasgow twice per week.

As Senior Developer within the IT Development Team you will be responsible for the design and development of coding solutions to support Project and BAU initiatives across the business. You will be required to help lead the work of project teams and work closely with business stakeholders and analysts to provide valuable technical insight and expertise into solution design of complex problems, working to best practices to ensure robust outcomes.

The role will require you to be extremely proficient in SQL coding, including SSIS and have an excellent understanding of relational database design. In addition, you will serve as a source of technical knowledge for other developers and the wider IT development team, conducting code reviews and performing production implementations using GitHub pipelines.

The role will allow you to be involved in many development projects within the business across both Business as Usual and Project workstreams, including the provision of Tier 3 application support to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to leading the design and development of new coding initiatives within the company and recommend improvements to existing processes that utilise core Policy Admin Systems.
  • Data manipulation and analysis using SQL and Oracle tools and writing/maintaining stored procedures.
  • Development and maintenance of SSIS packages.
  • Problem solve and debug SSIS/SQL issues.
  • Follow the development lifecycle and release process for production implementations and fixes.
  • Requirements gathering, analysis, effort estimation, and solution design of new SQL projects within the business.
  • Testing, deploying, and maintaining SQL projects and fixes in line with best practices.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide recommendations and advise on changes.
  • Implement code fixes into production as per the release process.
  • Help implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub as the company Source Control repository.
  • Understanding complex problems requiring a SQL solution or bespoke solution within the business software application.
  • Providing Tier 3 Application support to the business.
  • Being able to manage multiple tasks and meet development deadlines.
  • Work with colleagues across the business as well as being able to communicate technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills & Core Competencies

  • Advanced T-SQL/PL-SQL Development experience.
  • Advanced skills in SSIS.
  • Understanding of XSL.
  • Understanding of Java and APIs desirable.
  • Good working experience using GitHub and CI/CD pipelines.
  • A logical thinker with initiative and ability to problem solve.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels within the organisation.
  • Desire to learn, willingness to take on completely new tasks and work through to implementation.
  • Good knowledge of Life/Pensions products desirable.
  • Awareness/experience of workflow solutions within Application Software.
  • Experience in wealth management and life administration, and savings and investments would be advantageous.
