Rate: £65 umbrella per hour

Venn Group’s specialist public sector legal team are collaborating with a Local Authority based in Greater London to recruit a Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer on a Locum basis to come and assist the Principal Lawyer in managing the team

The role of Locum Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer is offered on a 6 month basis and will be extended on a rolling contract thereafter. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer to develop their management skills further

The ideal candidate for this role will be a Qualified Barrister, Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a proven tack record of successfully managing Adult Social Care legal matters within Local Government. Local Government experience is desirable for this role but candidates with extensive non Local Government experience are welcome to apply for this role.

About the Role:

General Advice and Case Conduct:

• Provide comprehensive advice and handle routine to moderately complex cases concerning adult social services issues
• Independently manage a caseload with minimal supervision, ensuring efficient and effective resolution
• Work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment to deliver high-quality legal services

Advocacy:

• Opportunity to represent clients in advocacy proceedings at the Court of Protection and County Court
• Utilise strong advocacy skills to effectively present cases and represent clients' interests

Managerial Responsibilities:

• Supervise and mentor junior members of the legal team, providing guidance and support as needed
• Oversee the allocation of casework and ensure equitable distribution among team members
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to enhance team productivity and professional development

Key Skills and Knowledge:

• Proficient in managing Court of Protection deprivation of liberty safeguards and welfare cases
• Experience in handling mental health cases, including s.117 and nearest relative matters
• Conduct assessments and provide advice on ordinary residence and financial matters under the Care Act
• Demonstrated experience in judicial review proceedings related to adult social services
• Familiarity with adult safeguarding procedures and inherent jurisdiction matters
• Experience in representing clients in inquests and navigating S.17/20 of the Children Act
• Additional experience with adults and families with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) is advantageous
