ASEND supports children and young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with their learning and personal development when they cannot access school or don’t have a school place. We’re looking for a Key Stage 1 or Early Years tutor to support a young person in the Stanford-Le-Hope area.

About ASEND Support

ASEND supports and tutors young people who are not able to attend school for a number of reasons; lack of a suitable school place, mental health needs or medical needs. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school, often as part of a wider support package.

We’re always child-centred and we target the building of emotional resilience and self-confidence alongside developing communication and life skills. It’s all about our students, meeting their specific needs and ensuring they make progress. We work very hard to find just the right tutor for each young person, matching their skills and expertise to the needs of each unique student.

About this student

We’re looking for a patient and caring therapeutic tutor for a 7-year-old autistic pupil in Stanford-Le-Hope. Academically, he is working two years behind, yet he is on the way to meeting the goals in the EYFS curriculum. His interests include dinosaurs, superheroes (both Marvel and DC!), scootering, colouring, animals, acting and puzzles, especially those related to Harry Potter.

At times, change can be particularly overwhelming for him and he faces physical challenges, hindering his ability to cope effectively. We work to make the start of tuition as smooth as possible and continue this throughout his lessons. The tutor will have extensive experience working with pupils who may present physical challenges when upset, and be able to create a safe, predictable, low arousal and nurturing learning environment for him to return to a place where he can re-engage.

Sensory issues, spatial awareness difficulties, and support with self-care are aspects where he requires support. This young child is in need of a skilled tutor who can create a predictable learning environment with clear boundaries, incorporating sensory breaks and a curriculum tailored to his interests. As he awaits the right educational setting, we aim to nurture his unique strengths and provide a supportive environment that fosters growth and development.

About you:

  • You’ll have experience with young people who have SEN, especially ADHD, ASD, PDA, SEMH and speech and language needs.

  • You’ll have experience with Early Years stages.

  • You’ll have a passion for helping children overcome their barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement.

  • You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with young people and their families.

  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils - and have fun with them.

  • Be able to keep routines and be punctual and consistent, but also flexible enough to change activities on the day.

  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do.

Benefits:

  • Generous and competitive rates of pay.

  • Option to arrange work around the existing schedule.

  • Opportunities for professional development.

  • Friendly expert support and guidance to enable you to meet individual learner needs and to ensure that you feel confident in your position.

  • Plenty of opportunities for training in working with children and young people with SEND.

  • Being part of a friendly and supportive team.

At ASEND you will always be well supported by our highly qualified and experienced team and well-remunerated for your work.
