ASEND tuition supports SEND pupils and helps them continue their learning while they cannot access school or don’t have a school place. We are looking for a teacher or tutor with ASD experience to support a pupil with Special Needs in Dudley.

What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Dudley. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including medical needs, Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school or to continue their learning.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is a 14-year-old girl diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She is a friendly and curious teenager, who very much needs the opportunity to build strong, positive relationships with trusted adults but who has experienced a great deal of trauma and loss in her life. She struggles to understand and cope with her feelings of distress and this can lead to her harming herself. She finds it very hard to understand the risks associated with these behaviours and is only just beginning to recognise her anxiety and find the words to talk about the emotions. It is essential that she is offered a nurturing, warm and fun learning environment so that she can begin to build connections in her life.

During one-on-one sessions with a tutor, she has engaged positively, has been keen to show her skills and interests and loves to show what she is capable of. Besides that, she is very sensitive and needs challenges to be presented slowly, with lots of praise. She loves creative arts, dancing, gymnastics, performing arts, and history, and had a passion for reading. She loves karaoke and thinks that music is her happy place. The ideal tutor would be creative, innovative and fun, to encourage her to develop her skills and confidence so that she can plan for a positive future.

Out pupil requires a skilled tutor who has a good understanding of ASD and trauma-informed practices such as the 'PACE’ approach — Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy. The tutor should also have an understanding of how her diagnoses impact her communication, regulation, and engagement with educational activities, and recognise that behaviour serves as a form of communication.
