SEN Tutor

ASEND tuition supports SEND pupils and continues their learning while they cannot access school or don’t have a school place. We are looking for a teacher or tutor to support a pupil with Special Needs in Oxford to enhance his education.

What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Oxford. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including medical needs, Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school or continue their learning.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is a 14-year-old young man with a drive for learning and sports. He has a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD and has found it difficult to engage in school settings due to his anxiety. He is a friendly young man, with a wide range of interests, including football, gaming, geology and cars. We would love to find someone who can really make a difference to his learning by incorporating his interests and help him get back up to speed with his education.

The ideal tutor for this pupil would be someone who has a fun and creative approach to their lessons. He has previously worked well with a one to one teacher and this seems to help him become more confident in his abilities as a learner. As he is preparing to undertake GCSEs or Functional Skills exams, a tutor who is confident in teaching Maths, English and Science at these levels will be crucial.

About you:

• You’ll have some experience with SEN: Autism, ADHD and PDA

• You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way

• You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement

• You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan

• Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning

• Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils

• Use a person-centred approach in their work

• Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do

• Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
