We are looking for an experienced, passionate SEND Tutor who can support a 15 year old LAC student living in a residential care setting in Leicester for 15 - 20 hours per week. Our pupil is working within P Levels and has diagnoses of epilepsy, autism and ADHD. He has a background of significant trauma. Tuition will take place in the care setting.

The tutor will need to be skilled in best Autism practice, creating and implementing an engaging and fun curriculum, with a focus on communication support, emotional regulation and preparation for adulthood.

ASEND work with SEND/SEMH pupils and continues their learning whilst they are between schools/settings. We don’t just focus on academic progress (although this is still important for pupils who can access an academic pathway); we take a holistic/therapeutic/creative approach to promoting good outcomes for our students and preparing them for the next phase of their lives and education.

Our tutors love working for us because the flexibility of the hours fits around their own family life or caring responsibilities. The highly-personalised, meaningful and child-centred nature of the work is also something we are all proud of. It isn’t easy working with students with complex needs but it is hugely rewarding. Our families and carers commonly tell us that this is their child’s first positive engagement with education in a long long time- they will really appreciate you.

We offer a fantastic support package for our staff with each tutor allocated a SEND manager who is always on hand for advice and acts as a 'virtual SENDCo’. You might be the one going into the home but you are not alone - there’s no I in TEAM but there is a U in SUCCESS!

What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Leicester. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is a complex 15 year old male who is likely to have foetal alcohol and drug syndrome as well as other medical needs. He has severe learning difficulties and will need an ASD aware, functional and play based curriculum, as well as a tutor who is confident in using visual timetables and photographic sequences to support learning. Our pupil is currently developing the capacity to use one or more words together in simple phrases to express his wants, ideas, and needs. He will need an appropriately differentiated preparation for adulthood curriculum that focuses on practical skills such as taking turns, self-help and being safe as an adult. He loves music, games, writing and numbers.

We have been tutoring him in person when he was in London and has recently moved to Leicester. We would love to place someone amazing with him and the previous tutor will be more than happy to do a full handover to assist you in getting started.
