Sen Teaching Assistant

Our school is currently on the lookout for a compassionate and skilled Temporary (with a strong potential to become permenant after January) Special Needs Teaching Assistant to provide essential support to students with diverse needs. Situated in the heart of Ebbw Vale, it is a forward-thinking educational institution that serves pupils from 3 – 16 years old. The school places a strong emphasis on the social and emotional development of its pupils, their approach is designed to cater to children with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties, providing a supportive and caring environment that helps students settle and make suitable progress.

At the primary campus, the warm and nurturing setting allows pupils to quickly feel comfortable and secure, which is particularly beneficial for those who previously struggled to engage in education. This environment supports pupils in making academic and social progress, with a focus on helping them develop the necessary skills for independence and informed decision-making.

Due to the needs of the pupils you must be able to commit to Monday to Friday, during term time as they need consistency and commitment from staff.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Provide individualised support to students with various challenges, including behavioural difficulties, mental health issues, trauma, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Implement strategies to foster positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to develop and implement personalised learning plans.
  • Assist in classroom activities to support academic and social development.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all students.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience working with children with special needs, particularly in areas such as behaviour management, mental health, trauma, etc.
  • A patient and empathetic approach, with the ability to stay composed in challenging situations. 
  • Flexibility to adapt to the varying needs of students.
  • Must hold, or be willing to obtain with us, a valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is essential, we can also assist you in registering.
