SEN Teaching Assistant

Randstad is currently looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant in Wakefield who is passionate about assisting children with complex learning and behavioural needs. You get to work at a Wakefield school which embraces the view that all children are different and require access to an educational process that reflects these differences. The school staff believe in igniting passion in children by engaging them with practical experiences.

The role will follow a regular school term timetable, starting asap. The usual hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am-3:30pm.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant you will:

Work with pupils aged 11-19 with special learning needs and disabilities in a specialist setting.

Assist teachers and caregivers in achieving academic goals.

Engage children with activities which inspire creativity and imagination.

Support children and make sure they're understanding the lesson taught by the teachers.

Work with pupils in small groups or 1:1 to understand their specific needs.

Work closely with teachers, caregivers and parents to implement positive behaviour and might also have to help pupils with issues.

Requirements:

• Previous experience of working in schools with SEN pupils or similar transferable experience
• Patient, passionate and professional
• Managing students with challenging behaviour
• Confident, punctual and eager
• To be able to manage behaviour effectively and build positive learning relationships with SEN Pupils.
• Excellent communication
• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
• An Enhanced Child DBS (we'll help you get one if not)
