SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Halifax. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for supporting children with complex mental and physical disabilities. The successful candidate will have experience or qualifications in working with diverse types of special educational needs.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Provide tailored support to children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Work closely with the teaching staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist with the development of social skills and independence in students.
  • Use a variety of strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Facilitate inclusive learning experiences for all students.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Adapt resources to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Support the physical needs of students as required, which may include lifting or assisting with mobility.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or relevant qualifications in special educational needs.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by children with mental and physical disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with children with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, and physical disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, encouraging approach.
  • Commitment to professional development and learning new skills.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
