We have a fantastic opportunity a Security Guard at Oldham Council. This is a full-time temporary role for the next 3 - 4 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Oldham Council are looking for a Security Guard to provide security at the council offices, assisting frontline staff dealing with members of the public. To guard and patrol any designated area/property, event, public building, asset, and space. To take appropriate steps to prevent risks to yourself, colleagues, partners, and the public. To respond to alarms and deter crime against Oldham Council premises and partners designated property. To deal with and liaise with members of the public, other Oldham Council staff, Emergency Services, internal and external contractors. To take appropriate steps as necessary to ensure property and premises remain secure and to prevent unauthorised entry, damage, and theft. To maintain a security presence and risk assess situations which could impact on you, colleagues, partners, and members of the public.

What are your responsibilities?

  • To ensure the public and council staff feel safe and secure, within the council offices.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality systems to ensure that the services delivered by the Division are quality driven being responsive to customer needs, effective and efficient in operation and provided in accordance with the Council’s Customer Care Policy.
  • Under the direction of the Supervisor/Senior and Oldham Council managers, to carry out security duties as directed, including routine patrolling and alarm response in order to actively discouraging theft and vandalism, including:
  • Undertaking dynamic risk assessment.
  • Assessing the response required, including against the Service Terms of Reference.
  • Monitoring and continuously reporting, using radio communications, back to the Control room and other colleagues.
  • Undertaking the handover of responsibility to oncoming Officers.
  • Carry out security duties as directed including routine patrolling and alarm response in order to actively discourage theft, vandalism and protect public buildings, assets and spaces.
  • Maintain contact with the Council’s Control Room, Supervisors, and management.
  • Respond to the Control Room on request to assist or investigate problems or incidents reported to them.
  • To respond, as directed, to all alarm activations and reset as required.
  • Keep an accurate written record of all incidents, occurrences and observations on security, resilience and safety matters. To utilise and maintain body cameras to gain accurate video footage for evidential purposes.
  • Liaise with all Council Departments, Emergency Services, other agencies and members of the public and assist as necessary.
  • Maintain and be responsible for site/premises keys, reports, documents and other items as required.
  • To lock and unlock premises as per relevant Service Level Agreements and be responsible for keys to designated sites. Actively maintain key logs and key management systems.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous Security Guard experience.
  • Valid SIA Badge
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, and other members of staff.
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update Service
  • Working Hours Monday to Friday 9.00am - 17.00pm
