School Caretaker

We are looking for a reliable and skilled School Caretaker to join my client's diverse academy located in South London. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the school’s facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our pupils and staff. This full-time position requires a hands-on approach and the ability to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility.

The hours of the role will be Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.

• Conduct routine checks and maintenance of the school buildings and grounds to ensure they are in good repair and safe for use.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, and painting, as needed.
• Oversee the cleaning staff and ensure the school is clean and well-presented at all times.
• Set up and clear down spaces for assemblies, events, and other school activities.
• Manage the security of the school premises, including opening and closing the building and setting security alarms.
• Respond to and manage any emergency maintenance issues promptly.
• Liaise with external contractors for specialist maintenance or repair work.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.

• Experience in caretaking, facilities, or a similar role, preferably within a school environment.
• Practical skills to carry out repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to a school setting.
• Strong communication skills to interact with staff, pupils, and external contractors.
• A proactive and flexible approach to work, with the ability to solve problems efficiently.
• An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role.
