Attendance Officer

Job Type: Part-time, Term Time

Location: Crawley

Salary: Grade 5 including Crawley Fringe

This fantastic school is seeking a dedicated Attendance Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on whole-school attendance data, identifying key areas of concern, and working closely with students, staff, parents, and carers to reduce levels of absence. This role is crucial in ensuring that persistent absence is addressed promptly, especially when it becomes a safeguarding issue.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Ensure daily attendance registers are accurate and complete, and follow up with staff members about any incomplete data.
  • Follow up on any unexplained absences with parents/carers, escalating issues as appropriate in line with school procedures.
  • Oversee the administration of absence procedures, including letters home, attendance clinics, and engagement with external agencies.
  • Manage attendance returns for the school census and the process of issuing penalty notices to parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of communications with parents/carers and relevant interventions.
  • Produce and interpret attendance reports for school leaders, identifying key statistics, reasons for absence, and any patterns of concern.
  • Track attendance of vulnerable groups of pupils and share information with school leaders.
  • Coordinate meetings with pupils and parents/carers to implement interventions and track progress.
  • Build positive relations with parents/carers to encourage family involvement in their child’s attendance.
  • Carry out home visits, where necessary, to address attendance concerns for individual pupils.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • GCSE English and Maths qualifications (Essential).
  • Ability to work well as part of a team (Essential).
  • Flexibility in approach to completion of work (Essential).
  • Ability to remain organised and work under pressure at times (Essential).
  • Ability to remain professional at all times (Essential).
  • Commitment to Equality and Diversity (Essential).
  • Experience working in a similar role within an education setting (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of Bromcom or similar school system (Desirable).
  • Strong ICT skills, including use of Microsoft systems (Desirable).

The post holder will contribute to the overall ethos, mission, work, and aims of the school.
