School Assistant Accountant

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Finance Assistant to join the Finance team within a group of four schools. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Manager and play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of the institutions.
Duties:- Assist the Finance team with administration and maintenance of the sales ledger, including preparation and posting of fee invoices.
- Act as the nursery lead for the Early Years Funding scheme.
- Enter purchase invoices, organise supplier payment runs, and reconcile and input credit card expenditure.
- Communicate with parents regarding fee payments and respond to queries.
- Manage balance sheet areas such as fixed assets, accruals, and prepayments.
- Ensure completion of month-end procedures and manage end-of-school-year financial activities.
- Assist with the annual accounts, prepare supporting schedules for audit, and liaise with auditors as required.
- Clean DBS check.
- Experience in a similar role, with knowledge of billing ledger, credit control, and purchase ledger.
- Educated to GCSE or A-Level standard.
- Bookkeeping or AAT qualification is desirable.
- Experience with SAGE or other accounting systems is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Numerate with attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and with minimum supervision.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Understanding of the need for confidentiality and the ability to relate well to children, adults, and parents.
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Working hours: 08:30 to 17:00 with a half-hour lunch break.
- Holidays: 20 days per annum pro-rata, to be taken mostly during school holidays, plus 8 Bank Holidays pro-rata.
