We are working with a local authority in Sheffield to find an Assistant Director of Finance on an interim basis. 

Contract Type: Initial 4 months  
Location: Hybrid/remote 
Umbrella day rate: £800 - £900 per day  

We are seeking an interim Assistant Director of Finance – Business Partnering to provide cover until our permanent recruitment is completed. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record as an Assistant Director with extensive experience in Finance Business Partnering within a large complex organisation.

Day to day of the role:

-Lead on Section 151 responsibilities on behalf of the CFO, including the development, review, and monitoring of the Council’s Medium-Term Financial Strategy and annual Revenue and Capital Budgets.  

- Provide expert financial business partnering advice to Directors to support the financial sustainability of their services and address key financial challenges.  

- Act as a proactive member of the Finance and Commercial services Leadership Team, leading on cross-cutting priorities.  

- Line management responsibilities including mentoring and supporting team members in their professional development.  

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- Must be a qualified accountant and a member of a registered body as defined in the Local Government Finance Act 1988.  

- Eligible to act as a Section 151 Officer.  

- Extensive experience in a similar role within local government.  

- Demonstrable experience in financial strategy development and budget management.  

- Strong leadership skills and experience in team management and development.  

- Excellent communication and business partnering skills.
