Roadfreight - Senior Operations Manager

My client is a leading global freight forwarder and they are looking to appoint a Senior Operations Manager - Land for their office based in Bradford.

The postholder will manage the FTL and LTL international road freight operations in the branch including managing fleet assets, pricing, cost management, vehicle utilisation and efficiencies in the transport network.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee end-to-end operations, including planning, scheduling, and execution of international road freight activities for UK & IE
• Optimise route planning, load consolidation, and resource allocation to ensure cost-effectiveness and timely deliveries.
• Stay abreast of international transport regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance requirements for the UK and Ireland.
• Implement and enforce compliance protocols to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
• Lead and mentor a team (including drivers) fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and provide constructive feedback to drive individual and team success.
• Regular visits to outlying branch locations in UK and occasionally Ireland

• Build and maintain effective relationships with carriers, negotiating contracts and service level agreements.
• Evaluate and onboard new vendors, ensuring they align with company standards for quality and reliability.
• Manage contract and spot freight using authorised digital platforms with intelligent matching, carrier rating, price building and bidding.
• Combine loads to realise consolidation effects .
• Seek and promote collaboration within the network.
• Manage full life cycle of a Direct Freight transport order
• Order acceptance, event management, POD upload and payment processes.
• Improve Direct Freight efficiency.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality

• Solid operational experience and knowledge of international road freight. Knowledge of the Irish market highly beneficial
• In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, customs and incoterms
• Experienced in managing both owned assets and sub-contractors.
• A proven track record of delivering both operational and commercial results.
• Proven management experience including staff performance, development and recruitment.
• Experienced in successfully managing change in a similar environment.
• Commercial and customer-oriented mindset
• Knowledge of Freight Exchange platforms and transport technologies
• Proficient in the use of Excel and the full MS Office
• Fluent in written and verbal English
