Our client are specialists in their market sector, they are now looking to recruit a Repair Operator (Fitter/Machinist) on a permanent basis.

The Job you’ll do

  • Ensure that parts are repaired & assembled in accordance with quality procedures and customer requirements.
  • Set up and machine various bearing components e.g. journal pad set, journal bushes, journal and thrust collars, baffles etc.: on a variation of conventional machine tools, including 24" four jaw centre lathe, 48" vertical borer, surface grinding and universal milling, to obtain desired drawing/design tolerances, in line with the associated Quality and Customer requirements.
  • To apply whitemetal and repair whitemetal to various bearing components such as thrust pads, journal pads, journal bushes, baffles etc. in line with the associated Quality and Customer requirements. Training will be given within this area if needed.
  • Fitting and bedding activities in compliance with safe working practices.
  • De-burring and identification of components in line with the associated Quality and Customer requirements.
  • Strip down and survey of parts and associated equipment in line with Company procedures.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out efficiently and accurately recorded on the Shop Floor Data Collection System.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with the associated shop orders / work-to lists and within the standard hours provided.
  • Demonstrating that planned inspections and tests have been completed with satisfactory results recorded and / or identified on the necessary paperwork, as defined by the OPC requirements.
  • Ensuring that the correct drawing is used and selecting appropriate tooling or inspection equipment with the correct calibration status.
  • To co-operate with Management and others to ensure the Company complies with current legislation, Health and Safety codes of practice on safe working and environmental requirements.
  • To assist in ensuring that good housekeeping standards are maintained (5 's system).
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout all activities of control.
  • Compliance with relevant departmental & company procedures.
  • Work a double dayshift (week about) shift system, to allow optimum capacity of both fitting and turning process/duties.
  • Other duties which the incumbent is competent to perform at the request of the Customer Support Manager or Repair Team Leader.
  • Must be a good team worker and contribute to the ongoing performance improvement of the department.

About You

  • Have knowledge of materials, in particular metals and experience of using various national standards.
  • Have knowledge of foundries, forges and fabrication shops.
  • Have experience in fitting and / or machining skills, such as turning, grinding etc.
  • Have experience in vertical boring and turning.
  • Must have a good understanding of Health and Safety and environmental / COSSH requirements.
  • Must have an understanding of machine tools and production processes.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Engineering Drawings and specifications.
  • Must be capable of developing an understanding of hydrodynamic bearing repair procedures.
  • Must be capable of developing an understanding of the function / operation of the company’s products and the associated failure modes.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours as and when required to support the needs of the business.
  • Have served a recognised Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline.
  • HNC / HND advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence.
