Welding Inspector

Reports to: Quality Control Head

Primary Purpose

Assuring the quality of products and materials entering and leaving a company, which is accomplished through the conduct of tests, the analysis of measurements and the oversight of production operations.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Perform Quality Inspections and Testing:

    • Conduct quality inspections and tests on materials, assemblies and equipment to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.  (In addition to welding, the scope of the inspection extends to all other activities related to the product, such as mechanical inspection, incoming inspection, special process inspection, etc)
    • Utilise appropriate inspection tools and techniques to identify any deviations or defects.
    • Inspect products at various stages of the production process to ensure they meet the desired quality standards.
  2. Prepare PQR/WQT Documents:

    • Review the drawing welding requirements and prepare the PQR / WQT documents, ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes.
    • Collaborate with engineers, designers and welders to ensure the accuracy of the documentation.
    • Update and maintain the PQR/WQT documents regularly to reflect any changes or modifications.
  3. Document Inspection Outcomes:

    • Complete detailed reports and performance records to document inspection outcomes, including details about deviations, corrective actions and acceptance criteria.
    • Use appropriate software, such as Excel or Word, to organise and summarise the inspection results.
    • Ensure that all inspection records are accurately maintained and easily accessible.Review Work Packages and Close:

    • to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications, identify any deviations and provide recommendations for improvement.
  5. Welding Documentations:

    • Maintaining a list of qualified welders should include their name, process and qualification date.
    • Maintain NDT documents
  6. Perform First Article Inspection: 

    • Conduct the First Article inspection to verify the accuracy, conformance and completeness of the initial production run of a product or component.
    • Use inspection checklists and criteria to ensure the First Article meets the specified requirements.
    • Provide detailed reports summarising the findings of the First Article inspection.
  7. Maintain Calibration Records:

    • Maintain calibration records for all tools and equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
    • Update calibration records when tools are recalibrated or replaced.
    • Conduct periodic audits of the calibration records to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  8. Recommend improvements to Production Process:

    • Identify areas for improvement within the production process related to quality control.
    • Collaborate with production teams to implement changes that enhance product quality.
    • Provide recommendations for process optimisations, efficiency and cost reduction.
  9. Educate the Production Team:

    • Teach the production team about quality control concerns, including proper documentation, inspection techniques and problem solving strategies.
    • Conduct training sessions and workshops to improve understanding of quality control principles.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by emphasising the importance of quality manufacturing process
  10. Resolve Quality related Issues:

    • Investigate and resolve quality related issues promptly, including deviations from specifications, non-conforming products and customer complaints.
    • Work with cross functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
    • Ensure timely resolution of quality related issues to minimise disruptions to the production process.

Educational Qualifications and Certifications

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Valid CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI certification is required for welding inspector
  • Certification in quality control is preferred.

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques
  • Detailed knowledge of welding inspections
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • First Article Inspection and Documentation knowledge

Technical Skills

  • MS Proficiency
  • Having a good understanding of reading engineering drawings
  • Inspection of tool usage knowledge

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.

  • Inspections and assigned tasks are completed on a daily basis
  • On time submission of FAI reports
  • No Customer finding
