Publishing Operations Lead - Maternity Cover

We have a lovely new role, working for an educational publication for children. This publication is available on newsstands and via subscription in print and digital formats, and school subscriptions. The Publishing Operations Lead is a maternity cover role, initially for 9 months, with the possibility of an extension. This is a full-time role, based in London, which offers a hybrid working arrangement, (3 days in the office and 2 days working from home), and there is the potential for the role to be considered for a 4-day week.

This is a fantastic opportunity to manage key areas across the business, and work with colleagues in other departments, as well as manage key supplier relationships.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with a third-party customer service team, ensuring processes are correct
  • Resolving delivery and fulfilment issues
  • Managing key suppliers, including printers, mailing houses, customer service centres, app developers and newstrade distributors
  • Signing off weekly production invoices and allocating costs to correct budgets, and monitoring costs
  • Reviewing supplier costs and looking at alternative processes and suppliers to ensure production costs remain low
  • Monitoring the sales and profit of newstrade copies and looking at ways to improve efficiencies
  • Working closely with the distributor to book promotions and manage pricings
  • Briefing and scheduling of jobs with suppliers

This is fabulous opportunity, working on a highly successful children’s educational magazine and the successful person will ideally have demonstrable experience withing the publishing industry, ideally a magazine background, but books experience will be considered, or you may have worked with a subscriptions house/bureau. Some experience of print buying would be ideal as you will be buying marketing materials (leaflets, booklets), and managing the relationship with the printer. You should also have some proven experience of mailing/fulfilment, with an understanding of postage/fulfilment. You should be process driven and detail oriented, proficient in Excel and solution focused.
