Our client a well-respected and reputable UK professional membership body is currently looking for Public Affairs and Policy Officer.

The Role of Public Affairs and Policy Officer.

Job purpose

  1. To assist the Public Affairs and Policy Manager to implement the public affairs strategy in Westminster, Whitehall, the devolved parliaments and across the regions in order to enhance and defend the reputation of the insolvency and restructuring profession and to deliver the communications messages to key decision makers.
  1. To assist in the development of policy recommendations for improving the UK’s insolvency and restructuring framework by working with the national policy committees and Membership Council.
  1. To support the public affairs strategy by establishing initiatives to encourage politicians and other key stakeholders to take an interest in insolvency and restructuring issues.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement a contact programme in Westminster, Whitehall, and the devolved parliaments, covering parliamentarians, civil servants, trade associations, charities, and other stakeholders.
  1. Develop and build on relationships with civil servants, charities, and other key stakeholders to support the work the public affairs work undertaken.
  1. Facilitate and attend meetings between parliamentarians and members and key committees.
  1. Assist the Policy and Public Affairs Manager in running parliamentary events in Westminster and stakeholder events on topical policy issues.
  1. Work proactively with the Policy Group, Fraud and Asset Recovery Group, Faculties, colleagues to develop policies relevant to the insolvency and restructuring profession and framework, and their stakeholders.
  1. Work with the membership committees, colleagues, and executives to formulate responses to government policy changes or consultations, or to issues raised by high profile insolvencies or other developments.
  1. Track and respond to relevant emerging developments and activity in parliament and the wider political and business spheres.
  1. Provide secretarial support to the membership Policy Group and Fraud and Asset Recovery Group, identifying matters to be discussed at the committee meetings, working with the committee chairs to prepare and issue agendas and supporting papers, undertake background research, attending meetings, writing and circulating minutes and progressing action points. These groups each meet two-three times per year.
  1. Support the Public Affairs and Policy member and the committee chairs to develop discussions at committee meetings into policy recommendations to be put to and agreed by the Membership Council.
  1. Work with the Public Affairs and Policy Manager drafting parliamentary and stakeholder briefings and letters and helping to prepare member surveys and other research.
  1. Work with the Senior Communications Manager to ensure the effective communication - and ultimately the implementation - of the Membership policy objectives and messages, feeding into press releases and other media materials.
  1. Represent The membership at meetings with external stakeholders as required.
  1. Attend the national and regional events and conferences as required. This may involve the occasional overnight stay.
  1. Perform any other duties and responsibilities within the range of the salary grade.
