My client are a precision manufacturing business, based in Birmingham, specialising in machining and assembly of high value low volume components.The Programme Manager will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of all projects within the Project Management department on time, within scope and budget. 

Reporting to the GM, the Programme Manager will be responsible for the line management of Senior Project Managers and Project Managers running the major customer projects.

This role is of strategic importance to the business and requires a high integrity individual with a strong project management and people management background.  The Programme Manager will be a team player, with strong skills in getting the best out of people and the projects that they oversee.

Job Description

The Programme Manager will be the lead contact point for the GM for all aspects relating to the Project Management department.  This will include having a good working knowledge of all current projects, establishing and updating key metrics and reports and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient communication.

The Programme Manager will represent the business in the global projects community by interfacing on a regular basis with other regional and global PLC businesses.  This role will enable the business to move to the forefront in Project Management capability which will be a key enabler to delivering projects on time and on budget to our global customers.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Establish strong stakeholder management internally end to end to project manage and execute projects throughout the functions and manage customer expectations through strong communication.
  • Creating and maintaining an overarching Project programme plan which includes all projects running through the Project Management department to meet Customer requirements
  • Establishing and maintaining a suite of standardised Project Management tools to be used on all projects including but not limited to; Project Initiation Document, Project Gant charts, risk Register, action Logs, stakeholder mapping, RACI matrix, project reports
  • Establishing and compiling a monthly report which includes a high level update of all projects, key department metrics including margin control
  • Ensuring the use of the standard project management tools by all project managers Overseeing the creation, maintenance and delivery of individual project plans to ensure on time delivery of projects
  • Working with the Finance department and using global best practise, establishing a through project costing mechanism to allow live cost and margin tracking on all projects Establishing and ensuring appropriate storage within a standardised network folder structure including a document naming convention
  • Working with the Sales team to establish and maintain a standardised handover process using the CORB model
  • Overseeing the effective use of the Project Matrix teams by Project Managers to drive their projects forwards
  • Working with the IT and Engineering departments, establish shared platforms which will allow customers to access and manage joint project documentation
  • Identifying resources, assigning responsibilities and managing performance on projects Carrying out line manager duties for direct reports
  • Gathering best practise from the wider project management community
  • Alongside the GM, acting as the interface with the wider project management community
  • Ensuring all projects are run through the in-house standard methodology, working closely with Project Managers to ensure delivery and margin control.
  • Providing support to the Sales team on quotes and bids for new projects as required
  • Reporting and escalating issues to management where appropriate.
  • Carrying out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested.
  • The Programme Manager, in conjunction with the HSE Team and other members of the supervision team, will be liable for the health and safety of employees, required to maintain a safe work environment and proactively manager and promote health, safety and environmental management within their function and across the business.
  • Ensure all employees are following the health and safety rules and challenge any behaviour that does not align to company standards

Essential Qualifications / Experience / Skills

  • High standard individual who looks to produce the best and has a constant desire to improve. A strong motivator with high energy and the ability to lead a high performing team 
  • An experienced project manager (degree or equivalent educated) holding a formal qualification in project management, either APMP or Prince 2 certified
  • Experienced in managing projects in an engineering and manufacturing setting
  • Ability to speak and write in English Language fluently is essential
  • Ability to operate within a global, forward-thinking business with a balance of working both strategically and operationally
