Techniche Global are supporting an engineering defence contractor to appoint a Principal Welding Engineer to join the team to develop a wet welding capability.

Rate:                     £75-100p/hr UMB (inside IR35)
Location:              Home Based with occasional visits to Plymouth and other sites
Duration:             12 months
Requirements:      Must be a sole UK passport holder; eligible for SC Clearance/ valid SC; must have underwater welding experience
  
Key responsibilities:
  • Work in conjunction with the Company’s Weld Quality Management System (ISO 3834-2) to ensure quality practises are abided by.
  • Review wet welding supplier’s documentation and providing answers to technical questions.
  • Oversee the development and qualification of new wet welding procedures to AWS D3.6M.
  • Being the department’s representative on the wet welding project – providing technical guidance and consultation.
  • Authoring of technical engineering reports/proposals for bespoke wet welding techniques utilising materials knowledge.
  
The Welding Engineering team provides SME support across the wider Company’s business units and sites with involvement in a diverse range of scopes from research projects and production activities through to operational/field repairs. Wet welding is a new venture for the department so will require an enthusiastic and experienced engineer.

Required Knowledge/ Skills:
  • The candidate will have an engineering background through either a graduate training scheme, degree or experience as a welding engineer. They should have an excellent understanding of welding processes and techniques. The candidate must exhibit strong personal organisation and communication skills.
  • The candidate must have had previous experience in wet welding and working with AWS D3.6M.
  • They will have a high degree of computer literacy; experience in using engineering software would be an advantage.
  • The candidate will need to show that they prioritise health and safety in the workplace and be able to demonstrate behaviours aligned with Babcock’s Principles.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • The applicant must be a British National and be capable of holding NNPI, PSA and Atomic security clearances.
Desirable:
  • Chartered Engineer
  • CIWE/CEWE Status
  • MSc in Welding Engineering
