Principal Software Engineer

Due to team growth the position of Principal Software Engineer has become available to join our successful Digital Solutions Team.

We need a Principal Software Engineer who is a well-established expert for this principal level role with a very broad range of skills including C++, Java & Azure to meet our current needs as well as future proof for different opportunities in the pipeline.

You will work closely with the Service Manager and the Service Operations team to maintain live services, contribute towards growth of the contracts, and ensure service requests are handled within the SLAs defined in the maintenance contracts.

In Digital Solutions we have a particular focus in the areas of our two-core market facing propositions of:

Situational Intelligence: Focused on real-time systems to solve our clients’ challenges. For example, our Video Management System deployment sub-proposition.

Digital Twin: Which will primarily be using Microsoft Azure and established Digital Twin platforms such as Bentley i-Twin and providing systems integration for our client’s assets.

You will be issued with a homebased contract, but occasional travel (with advanced notice) may be required for in-person meetings / workshops. The "home" office for this role will be in our technology capability hub in Worle (near Bristol) however you can work from any of our other office locations throughout the UK should you want to.

Eligibility for Security Clearance is essential (UK National or a UK resident for 5+ years), and a UK Driving Licence will be highly beneficial as some projects are in remote locations.

Role Requirements

· Programming skills (C/C++ and Java)

· Windows and Linux development with appropriate IDEs

· Embedded Linux OS development (knowledge of Wind River Linux or Yocto)

· Database development (SQL and/or NoSQL such as MongoDB) Spring Framework (e.g. Spring Boot and plugins)

· Experience of development methodologies (e.g. waterfall, agile)

· Effective leadership and teamworking skills in cross functional project teams

· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) wrt technical as well as non-technical audience.
