The role United Utilities (UU) is on the lookout for Wastewater Network Modelling experts who are eager to make a positive impact on the environment and society by leading sustainable, large-scale Wastewater Network Modelling projects. As Principal Modeller, you will be responsible for technical leadership, taking on management responsibilities and influencing modelling strategy both within UU and our client network. You will provide guidance, training, and promote staff development and wellbeing within the discipline. The role will involve taking part in the planning, programming, and coordinating of wastewater projects while ensuring delivery excellence, technical governance and best practices are upheld.

As a Principal Modeller, you will play a crucial role in delivering our AMP8 Better Rivers programme and extensive studies and investigations programme. By embracing and promoting innovation, especially with new technologies and/or environmental solutions, and using your leadership skills, you will oversee a team of senior modellers and modellers to deliver solutions that will help us shape and define our future vision.

You'll be at the forefront of our most groundbreaking initiatives with full access to our organization and cutting-edge work. You will utilise your expertise to tackle engineering challenges unique to our industry and collaborate with other specialists to shape vital elements of Research and Development (R&D), Planning and Network Engineering activities within our programmes. Key accountabilities

  • Working closely and developing strong relationships with all internal clients and partners.
  • Provide engineering support including design and technical engineering advice to all areas of UU.The main areas are likely to be the capital programme, operational support and studies & investigations.
  • Responsible for the delivery of a range of projects, studies and investigations throughout UU including data gathering and analysis, design, preparation of technical reports, review of proposals by others and providing advice and responses to other team members.
  • Leadership and line management for technical staff within the team, mentoring and supervising developing engineers from across the business.
  • Raising the profile of UU technical leadership in the water industry and other sectors.

Skills & experience

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Chartered or Incorporated professional or demonstrable equivalent level of expertise.
  • Strong technical competence and leadership skills, coupled with high levels of emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to influence as well as direct technical solutions across the whole of UU Experience in leading successful modelling resource teams in a highly technical and commercial environment.
  • Modelling experience needs to be in in the use of Innovyze InfoWorksTM ICM software. Hold a full UK/EU driving licence.
