One of the world's leading energy insurance brokers is looking for a Risk Assessment Engineer (Mechanical) to join their team based in London on a full time, hybrid working basis. The role is Assistant Vice President / Vice President Grade.

The company provides risk engineering services across the globe, for clients in all sectors, from oil & gas exploration and production, through refining, downstream petrochemicals, and power plants, wind, and renewables.

Reporting to the London Risk Engineering Leader, the role will be heavily client facing, surveying customers power generation assets, producing risk assessments, loss estimates and conducting training and benchmarking exercises.

The role offers the opportunity to interact with senior client staff in risk management, operations and engineering functions. The ability to communicate at all organisational levels is a critical competency.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Produce risk engineering reports which details:
    • Description of the site operations
    • An analysis of Loss Prevention/Mitigation features
    • A ranking of the quality of the site and recommendations for improvement
    • Estimation of property damage, often using our bespoke modelling software
  • Carrying out risk assessments of operational power plants and reviews of new projects for client power clients.
  • Support the Power Broking team in placing risks in international insurance markets.
  • Manage and develop re: Engineering Management System.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Mechanical or Power Systems Engineering Degree.
  • Sound working knowledge of power industry, operations, technologies, and construction management. Work execution methods and project management are required.
  • Exposure to risk-assessed decision-making is essential - relevant to the field of expertise.
  • Experience of technical simulation packages for process modelling, risk assessment, project execution purposes as is relevant to field of expertise.
  • IT literacy includes general office systems such as Word, Excel, Power Point (or similar).
  • Enhanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Develops and maintains client relationships.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of an organisation.
  • Proficient in company sanctioned software and systems, as well as relevant use of the Internet.
  • Proficient in English language.
  • Develops new and expanded business opportunities.
  • Utilise and develop spheres of influence to develop new and expanded business.

Required Experience:

  • Production management and execution of new thermal power plant projects with a principal contractor, OEM, or plant owner.
  • Oversight and delivery of equipment overhauls and inspections of thermal power plant turbomachinery (gas turbines, aeroderivative gas turbines, steam turbines, turbine generators, and solar arrays).
  • Responsible as a leader in the operations and maintenance of thermal power plants.
  • Experience in the execution and/or the operation and maintenance of renewable energy resources / Energy from Waste would be beneficial.

Travel required for the role: A combination of EMEA (majority) and world-wide travel required (typically 70-80 days per year).
