We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Policy Leadwho has experience working in a policy role, planning and delivering campaigns of influence with a strong knowledge of the policy landscape.

As the Policy Leadyou will be responsible for leading the Trust’s contribution to national and local consultations, policy campaigns and internal and external research studies. You will ensure at all times the voices of neurodivergent people, those using the services, partners, stakeholders and colleagues are represented. By doing so you will ensure the Trust has visibility, credibility and influence across a broad range of policy and decision makers in Scotland and UK wide.

This is initially a standalone position with the potential to build a small team.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Policy Lead include:

  • Work with the Executive Leadership Team, lead the development and delivery of the policy positions and campaigns of influence
  • Establish the foundations of an effective policy function
  • Research the experiences and views of neurodivergent people through a range of approaches to ensure the Trust’s policy positions are evidence based and that the priorities and experiences of neurodivergent people determine influencing activity
  • Develop and support broader opportunities for neurodivergent people to influence policy, for example through events, consultation sessions and surveys so they can be advocates for policy campaigns
  • Write high quality briefings, consultation responses and policy related publications
  • Engage actively with high level stakeholders in government and policy circles in Scotland, including government officials, Ministers, third sector and statutory services, as well as other third sector providers
  • Monitor and provide analysis of the political and governmental landscape in Scotland and across the UK, acting as a source of expertise for the organisation
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team and Service Leads in engaging on policy issues, including contributing to research which informs service and best practice development
  • Lead and provide oversight on stakeholder engagement in Scotland, ensuring that the Donaldson Trust has productive professional relationships and extensive contacts within government, policy making and across the health and social care and education sectors.
  • Represent the charity in key groups and forums
  • Lead organisational input into relevant Cross Party Groups of the Scottish Parliament.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary systems and processes to ensure that the organisation complies with the requirements of the Lobbying Act
  • Track and analyse the impact of policy campaigns, evaluating effectiveness of policy activity
  • Report and present to Executive Leadership Team and Board Committees as required
  • Lead, develop, coach and manage staff and volunteers, driving a culture of excellence and high engagement
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures and legal requirements, within own area of responsibility

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience of working in a policy role
  • Demonstratable experience planning and delivering campaigns of influence
  • Strong knowledge of policy landscape in Scotland and the UK
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills, you will be highly self-motivated and demonstrate a positive "can do" attitude
