Planning Enforcement Officer - Rochdale Council
  • Pay rate: Up to £50 per hour Umbrella
  • Location: Rochdale, OL16. Hybrid and on site working.
  • Job Type: Full-time, initial 6 month contract

Rochdale Council looking for a Planning Enforcement Officer to join their Planning Service team. This role is essential in carrying out the functions of the Council in respect of planning enforcement work and related environmental matters. The successful candidate will be based at Number One Riverside, Smith Street, Rochdale, and will work 37 hours per week.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Investigate enquiries or complaints regarding alleged breaches of planning control, including unauthorised uses of land and buildings.
  • Investigate the condition of land and buildings following enquiries and complaints.
  • Monitor development sites to ensure compliance with approved plans and conditions of any planning permission or terms of any legal agreement.
  • Liaise with internal Council Services and external agencies to ensure efficient and effective handling of enquiries and complaints.
  • Collect evidence, prepare legal notices, and files for delegated authorisation to proceed with any necessary legal action.
  • Prepare enforcement appeal statements and prosecution files, and give evidence at public inquiries, tribunals, court hearings, or similar proceedings.
  • Update and maintain accurate files and records relating to investigations into enquiries, complaints, and enforcement proceedings.
  • Assist in the use, development, and enhancement of electronic information systems within the Service.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in planning enforcement or a related field.
  • Knowledge of planning legislation and enforcement powers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various stakeholders.
  • Competency in maintaining accurate records and handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency in using electronic information systems.
